I’d love a feature where I can sing over the chord progression directly in Hookpad (browser) while it’s looping, and Hookpad would listen to my mic and auto place the detected pitches as Hookpad melody notes in the key I’m already in.
Sort of like:
- click play
- Hookpad loops the progression
- I sing
- Hookpad detects pitches in key and places notes on the timeline or just best guesses the note depending on the key i selected the song to be in.
This would be kind of like a “Melodyne-lite” inside Hookpad.
Melodyne already does this very well in terms of pitch detection and snapping to scale. Hookpad already does this very well in terms of composition data structure. Marrying those two workflows would be very helpful and more efficient.
Why I want this
I know Hookpad already has MIDI import for melodies (I do use Melodyne → export → import) but:
- tempo sometimes imports weird for me (depends where I exported from)
- it adds friction + context switching
- I use Aria style “context generation” in my writing process
- I like to spew melody ideas fast and stay in one window
I want to “just sing” my idea while the chords loop, and have Hookpad capture it as notes right in the melody lane, already quantized to bars + key. thanks again! been paying for Aria for awhile and I love it
